WhiteWave Foods Co (WWAV) from 2013–2015. Note the price has jumped around in 2016 but as of this writing the price is back to 2015 highs. This chart shows through 2015 for simplicity.

When I saw WhiteWave Foods adopt influencer marketing at scale, I thought they were pretty smart. I had no other inside knowledge of the company, but I knew they were smart people who could see the future.

So I bought some of their stock. Having spent most my savings founding a company I can safely say that it wasn’t a lot of money but I wish it was more. That money is up over 200%. That means it has more than tripled. Compare that to the S&P 500 stock market average over the same time period which is only up 50%. That price is well above their competitors which haven’t adopted influencer marketing at scale.

WhiteWave Foods has been the subject of many posts about the ROI of Influencer Marketing, but isn’t this the ultimate measure of ROI? Creating value for everyone: shareholders, employees and everyday consumers?

I’ve now seen this with a number of companies. Obviously I know there is a lot playing out here than just the effects of influencer marketing. Is it the market? Is it the smart people at the company? I’m not sure but even if it is just that smart people in hot markets adopt influencer marketing, I’ll still bet on that company any day.
